Corbel and Capitals
A corbel, also know as a bracket or a console, is an ornamental element which projects from the face of a wall under a cornice or an arch. Some corbels or brackets support weight, but most made of plaster are purely decorative. Corbels range in design from simple scrolls to highly imaginative creations. Capitals are from the Latin Word “caput” meaning head and are decorative elements at the head of a column or pilaster. Capitals are considered “showpieces” of architectural ornament, and are found in all design periods. However, the classical orders remain the most popular. We will advise you on the proper proportion for your capital.

Historical Frieze
A frieze is a horizontal band which, in interiors runs above doorways, windows and the picture rail, but below the cornice. Usually decorated with serial ornaments, it is a highly prominent part of a space’s décor. Friezes are also part of the classical entablature, featuring low relief sculpture as is found on many imposing exteriors. Our firm can design or recreate the perfect frieze for your project.

Pilasters
A pilaster is a slightly projecting flattened column built into or applied to the face of a wall. It can beautifully articulate on an interior wall, or flank the sides of a window frame on an exterior façade. Pilasters can be smooth or fluted, and their capital styles vary as much as that of a column. Consider including pilasters in your design scheme for a fine effect.
